Open to full-time CMO and VP of Marketing roles at pre-IPO cybersecurity companies. Fractional, advisory and speaking in the interim.
I am a B2B cybersecurity marketing executive looking for a full-time CMO or VP of Marketing role at a pre-IPO cybersecurity company, Seed through Series C. Two decades building marketing engines from zero: a $4.2M budget and a team scaled from 2 to 20 at a Series B IAM company, protected endpoints from 750K to 4M+ in 18 months at a hyper-growth endpoint security company, marketing-influenced pipeline from 21 percent to 73 percent at a data access security startup, and 1,112 percent ROI on a user conference built from nothing. Fractional and advisory engagements are open in the interim, including interim-to-permanent.
The primary thing I am looking for, and the thing everything else on this site is evidence for.
Pre-IPO cybersecurity, venture or PE-backed, Seed through Series C, where the go-to-market motion needs to be built or rebuilt rather than maintained. I have done this at identity threat intelligence, IAM, endpoint breach prevention, network security, SaaS and data access security, and agentic AI SecOps companies, across commercial, enterprise, federal and law enforcement segments.
Adjacent categories are a real fit too: GRC and compliance, and security-adjacent B2B SaaS with a technical buyer. What travels is the buyer, not the acronym. Selling to a CISO, a security architect and a procurement team at the same time is a specific skill and it does not transfer from selling to marketers.
Observe, Analyze, Execute. Days 1 to 30 map every stakeholder, customer conversation, platform and number before anything changes. Days 31 to 60 turn that into a funnel model worked backward from the ARR target, with every function rated and the budget scoped against the number. Days 61 to 90 install the dashboards, the operating cadence and the plan of record. The full framework is documented at Observe / Analyze / Execute.
Marketing leadership reports to the CEO, not the CRO. Marketing and sales are peer functions accountable to the same revenue number. When marketing reports into sales, the function gets optimized for this quarter's lead volume and loses the mandate to build category position, product marketing and the pipeline that closes two quarters from now. If the org chart is settled the other way, we should talk about that before anything else.
Saying so early saves both sides a process.
Open now, and running in parallel with the search for the right full-time seat.
A 90-minute guided session with your leadership team using the full 83-question diagnostic, delivered as a scored 30-60-90 alignment plan. The fastest way to find out whether a deeper engagement is worth either of our time.
A defined build with a defined end: positioning and messaging, budget and funnel model, marketing infrastructure, a flagship event, or a category launch.
An interim marketing leadership seat while you search, or while the function is too early to justify a full-time executive. Board reporting included.
Board and operating advisory for founders and investors. Panels, podcasts and workshops on GTM strategy, AI-native marketing operations, and cybersecurity demand generation.
Interim to permanent: if an interim engagement is going well and the seat is one both sides want filled permanently, I am open to converting. Agreeing that up front costs nothing and removes an awkward conversation later.
Everything below was designed, coded and is run by me. It is the clearest evidence I can offer of how I operate.
A nightly job intelligence system tracking open GTM roles at pre-IPO cybersecurity companies across 11 applicant tracking systems, with a daily digest and a hiring landscape dashboard.
A 13-dimension, 83-question assessment with automated scoring that returns budget math, a functions coverage map, and a 30-60-90 plan. Free 21-question scan, no signup.
A 30-role reference library with compensation bands, scope, and first-90-day expectations, written for the person doing the hiring.
The agentic pipeline that runs this site nightly: crawl, normalize, score, digest, sync. Built on the same Observe / Analyze / Execute sequence.
CMO, VP or SVP of Marketing at a pre-IPO cybersecurity company, venture or PE-backed, typically Seed through Series C, where the GTM motion needs to be built or rebuilt rather than maintained, and where marketing reports to the CEO as a peer of sales.
Seed through Series C. That is where a $4.2M budget and a 2-to-20 team build, 750K to 4M+ endpoints in 18 months, and 21 percent to 73 percent marketing-influenced pipeline all happened. Later-stage and public companies are a weaker fit.
Yes, in the interim and alongside the search. Engagements run from a scoped alignment workshop through an embedded interim seat, and interim-to-permanent is available where both sides want it.
Observe, Analyze, Execute: map before changing, model before planning, install before reporting. The full framework is documented on its own page.
When the mandate is lead volume rather than pipeline and ARR, when marketing reports to the CRO, when the company wants a brand caretaker rather than an operator, or when the category is outside cybersecurity, GRC and compliance, and security-adjacent B2B SaaS.
