Common questions
Why do go to market role titles get confused so often?
Because titles in go to market describe altitude and scope rather than a fixed set of duties, and both drift by company stage. A VP of Marketing at a Series A company and a VP of Marketing at a Series C company are doing different jobs. The practical consequence is that a job description written from a title rather than from uncovered functions tends to attract the wrong shortlist, and the mismatch usually surfaces in the first ninety days.
How should I choose between two similar roles?
Start from the gap, not the title. Map every go to market function and mark it covered well, covered thinly, not covered, or not needed yet. The uncovered functions define the role. Then check the scope load: if the functions assigned to one person exceed roughly one and a quarter full time equivalents, split the role or cut scope before posting it. Scope load is the strongest single predictor of a mis-hire.
Where do the salary bands on these pages come from?
Each band starts from published benchmark sources including Pave, Levels.fyi and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, triangulated at a United States Series B midpoint, then adjusted by stage and geography multipliers. A cybersecurity premium is applied on top, because the general benchmark sources are cross industry and security go to market roles clear above the cross industry midpoint. Where GTM Radar has enough matched live postings, the posted range is shown alongside the benchmark rather than replacing it.
